In late 2024, Llanfairpwll Distillery embarked on an exciting new chapter in our journey of craft spirit excellence: the production of our very own single malt whisky. Nestled on the Isle of Anglesey, we have long been known for our award-winning rums and gins, but whisky has always been part of the dream — and now it's become reality.
Honouring Tradition, Embracing Innovation
Our approach to single malt whisky stays true to the core values that define Llanfairpwll Distillery: authenticity, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to our local surroundings. Using 100% malted barley and a modern GStill pot still, our process is rooted in time-honoured methods while embracing a forward-thinking attitude to flavour and finish.
From mashing and fermentation through to careful distillation, every step is done on-site at our distillery — giving us full control over the quality and character of our spirit. Our location on Anglesey provides the perfect maritime climate for whisky maturation, and we’re already seeing how the sea air is starting to shape the spirit as it rests in carefully selected oak casks.
Cask Maturation and Future Releases
Our inaugural spirit is currently maturing in a variety of oak casks, including ex-bourbon and rum, allowing us to explore a diverse and nuanced flavour profile. Though whisky cannot legally be called "whisky" until it has matured for a minimum of three years, we’re already excited by the depth of character developing in our new make spirit.
The first bottles of Llanfairpwll Single Malt Whisky are scheduled for release in late 2027 — a small, limited-edition bottling that will mark a major milestone for our distillery and for whisky production in Wales.
