Welsh Rum Made on Anglesey

Discover Anglesey Rum Co — proudly crafting truly Welsh rum at Llanfairpwll Distillery.

At Llanfairpwll Distillery on the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Môn), we are proud to produce one of the very few rums genuinely made in Wales. Our Anglesey Rum Co range is crafted entirely on site — from fermentation through to distillation and bottling — using 100% pure cane molasses, Welsh water and our modern hybrid still.

Whether you are searching for Welsh rum, exploring craft spirits from Wales, or looking for a distinctive premium rum with a true sense of place, Anglesey Rum Co represents the spirit of the island in every bottle.

Is Rum Made in Wales?

Yes — although it remains relatively rare. While gin and whisky production in Wales has grown significantly in recent years, only a small number of distilleries produce rum fully on Welsh soil.

At Llanfairpwll Distillery, we take pride in producing our rum properly and transparently. Unlike many products that are simply blended or bottled in the UK, our Anglesey Rum Co range is:

  • ✔ Fermented in Wales
  • ✔ Distilled in Wales
  • ✔ Matured and blended on Anglesey (where applicable)
  • ✔ Bottled at our distillery

This hands-on, start-to-finish approach is what makes our rum genuinely Welsh.

How Our Welsh Rum Is Made

Our rum production begins with 100% pure cane molasses, which we ferment on site using carefully selected yeast and fresh Welsh water. The resulting wash is then distilled through our modern hybrid GStill, allowing us to achieve exceptional purity while retaining rich molasses character.

This contemporary distillation approach gives us precise control over flavour development while maintaining the depth and body expected from premium craft rum.

Our process in simple terms:

  1. Molasses fermentation on Anglesey
  2. Careful distillation using our hybrid still
  3. Blending and flavour development
  4. Maturation (for selected expressions)
  5. Bottling at Llanfairpwll Distillery

The result is a range of Welsh rums that balance authenticity, character and drinkability.

Why Welsh Water Matters

Anglesey is surrounded by the Irish Sea and blessed with clean, fresh water — a key ingredient in quality spirit production. The local environment, combined with our careful fermentation and distillation approach, helps create a rum with a distinctive smooth character.

While rum is traditionally associated with the Caribbean, modern craft distilling allows producers like us to create world-class rum right here in Wales — with our own island identity.
